Meet the Young Man Whose Passion for Locating Stole Our Hearts This Halloween

Kai is a 12-year-old who wanted to dress up as a USIC utility locator. His wish sparked something special — USIC team members came together to celebrate a young man who already knows his purpose.

With a passion for locating, Kai is unstoppable, curious, and incredibly dedicated. He knows which color represents each utility. 

We were proud to present Kai with an Honorary Utility Locator certificate, USIC swag, and a retired receiver and to walk him through the locate process. He explored the equipment, scanned his backyard with a metal detector, and lit up the strobes on a USIC truck. 

Kai reminds us what passion looks like in its purest form — and how powerful it can be when people show up for a young person chasing what they love.
